Happy Keycon clients shaking hands with their builder outside their completed Melbourne home

Keycon Constructions Reviews: What Our Clients Say, Including the Tough Ones

If you're thinking about building with Keycon Constructions, you've probably already searched for Keycon Constructions reviews. That's exactly what you should do. A new home is likely the biggest purchase you'll ever make, and you deserve to know what building with us is really like before you sign anything.

So we've put it all on one page: what our clients praise, what they've criticised, and how we respond. We haven't hidden the negative feedback, and we've answered it directly.

Why we wrote this page

Most builders show only their best feedback. We're proud of ours. But you're going to read the critical reviews anyway, and we'd rather you read them with our side of the story next to them. That way you can judge whether the problems were one-offs, how we dealt with them, and whether they'd matter for your build.

Keycon Constructions has handed over more than 400 homes across Melbourne's western growth corridor. That includes Werribee, Tarneit, Point Cook, Truganina, Hoppers Crossing, Manor Lakes, Wyndham Vale, Aintree, Rockbank and Melton. We build house and land packages, custom homes and knockdown rebuilds. When you build that many homes, not every client will be happy with every moment. The honest measure of a builder is how it handles those moments.

What Keycon Constructions clients value most

Across our reviews and handover conversations, the same themes come up again and again.

Finish quality at handover.

The standard of the finished home is the thing clients mention most. They expect clean lines, tidy detailing, and a home that matches the plans they signed off on. We walk every client through their home before handover so anything that isn't right is picked up and fixed before keys change hands.

"Quality home builders. Open and honest communication. Very happy with the quality of our home. A big thank you to the Keycon team."
Rif A., Google review ★★★★★

One site supervisor who knows your home.

Every Keycon Constructions build has a dedicated site supervisor. Clients tell us that having one person who knows their home, their selections and their timeline makes the whole process far less stressful than being passed between departments.

"Steve was a pleasure to deal with, great communication & excellent service. Would definitely recommend! Thank you boys :)"
Sabina C., Google review ★★★★★

First-home buyers feeling looked after.

Many of our clients are building for the first time. Contracts, variations, stage payments and inspections can feel overwhelming. We explain each stage in plain English, so you always know what's happening and what comes next.

"I built my first home with Keycon in Truganina. I was very happy with Marco, my supervisor."
Pranish N., Truganina, Google review ★★★★★

Value and inclusions.

A new home has to fit your budget without cutting corners. Clients tell us they appreciate competitive pricing and the upgrades that come as standard with a Keycon Constructions home, so there are fewer costly extras to add later.

"Got my project completed with them recently. Very polite and efficient staff. Prices are competitive as well. Moreover this builder provides decent upgrades as a standard. Very impressed."
Rajat M., Google review ★★★★★

Local knowledge of Melbourne's west.

We build almost entirely in the western suburbs. We know the estates, the developer design guidelines, the councils and the local soil conditions. For clients building in a new estate, that knowledge helps avoid surprises with approvals, site costs and estate requirements.

Knockdown rebuilds handled start to finish.

Clients rebuilding on their existing block appreciate having demolition, approvals and construction managed by one team, with one point of contact.

The tough reviews, and our honest response

Here are the recurring criticisms we've seen in Keycon Constructions builder reviews, and our response to each. We haven't softened them.

"The build took longer than we expected."

What clients said: Some clients have written that their build took well beyond the timeframe they expected. One review describes a build of around 13 months.

Our response: That's a fair criticism, and we understand the frustration. Delays cost you rent, mortgage repayments and a lot of patience. Many of the longer builds happened during the COVID-19 pandemic, when the whole building industry faced severe shortages of materials and labour. Supply chains were disrupted, prices rose sharply, and trades were hard to secure, so timelines stretched right across the sector. But that doesn't excuse poor communication. Where clients weren't kept properly informed about a delay, we fell short.

What you can expect from us: A written construction timeline before work starts, regular progress updates from your site supervisor, and a clear explanation, in writing, whenever a stage runs behind schedule. If you're not getting updates, ask for them. You're entitled to them.

"We had a defect after handover and it took too long to fix."

What clients said: One review describes a leak caused by bathroom sealing after the client moved in.

Our response: Defects can happen in any new home, and wet areas are one of the most common places they show up. That's why a warranty process exists. What matters is how quickly and properly the problem is fixed. If a client felt that process was slow, we let them down, and we're sorry.

What you can expect from us: Wet-area waterproofing checked before tiling, a prompt response when you report a defect, and a follow-up to confirm the repair has held. A leak isn't a minor inconvenience, and we treat it as a priority.

"It was hard to reach anyone about warranty."

What clients said: Some clients were frustrated that warranty requests could only be made by email.

Our response: Email gives both sides a clear written record of what was reported and when, which protects you. But we accept that it can feel impersonal and slow when something is wrong in your home.

What you can expect from us: Every warranty request acknowledged, a named person handling it, and scheduled check-ins after handover so small issues are caught early. If a concern isn't being resolved, ask for it to be escalated to management.

How to judge any builder's reviews, including Keycon Constructions'

Whichever builder you choose, these checks will tell you more than a star rating.

  1. 1Look at the pattern, not the outliers. Every builder has a few very negative and a few glowing reviews. Look for what keeps coming up.
  2. 2Check the dates. A complaint from several years ago matters less than one from last month if the builder has since improved. Ask them what changed.
  3. 3Read the builder's replies. A builder that responds calmly and specifically to criticism is usually one that deals with problems well in real life.
  4. 4Visit a finished home. Ask to see a completed build, or speak to a past client in your area. We're happy to arrange this.
  5. 5Check the licence and insurance. Confirm the builder is registered with the Victorian Building Authority (VBA) and provides domestic building insurance for your project.
  6. 6Read the contract. Make sure timelines, inclusions and the warranty process are written down, not just promised.
